Retro Friday ... Dead Man's Party

Geesh, I almost let another Friday get away from me. But alas, it's still Friday, and so here it is!!

Today's Retro Friday features the song "Dead Man's Party" ... and the band Oingo Boingo!

When I lived in Los Angeles, back when I was in High School, our radio station of choice was KROQ ... ROQ of the 80's. And every Fall they sponsored this Halloween Concert/Bash at Irvine Meadows which featured the band Oingo Boingo. The theme of these Halloween concerts was "Dia de los muertos," and the shows were always memorable, to say the least. And the favorite song of the night during the Halloween Shows was "Dead Man's Party."

There's not a Halloween that goes by that I don't call some radio station and request "Dead Man's Party." They sometimes play it, but often times not ... but Halloween isn't Halloween to me without Oingo Boingo and "Dead Man's Party. It's just one of those songs that makes me smile!

To me, Oingo Boingo was one of the quintessential 80's bands. After their final Halloween show at Irvine Meadows in 1993, they were called the best KROQ band of the 80's, and for me they truly were!

I hear there is a tribute band in L.A. called Dead Man's Party, and I'd love to check them out the next time I'm in L.A.!

Okay, enough of my blabbering!! Enjoy a little "Dead Man's Party" by Oingo Boingo!

Cheers!

  1. I loved that they put this song (and the band) in Rodney Dangerfield's "Back To School". You're right...definitely a staple of the 80's.

  2. The Farewell concert was 1995, not 1993...
